PRESENTATION: RETURN OF WAR IN ETHIOPIA AND WHY IT MATTERS
The 2020 war in Tigray is among the deadliest conflicts of the 21st
century. As many as 600,000 civilians were killed, nearly 10 percent of
the women in the region were raped, and hundreds of thousands were
forcibly displaced in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. Ethiopian prime
minister Abiy Ahmed has been credibly accused of genocide.
Open war has returned to the region. It threatens to become one of the
largest humanitarian disasters the world has ever seen.
